It had been a tough week so far with extra Cheerio practises and extra Glee practises. With sectionals for both just around the corner, Quinn was finding herself overwhelmingly busy and couldn’t remember the last time she had been. As Captain as the Cheerios she had to show up to every practise, and to make up for that she was practising her Glee songs outside the choir room as much as possible. Sometimes, she wished that she wasn’t part of both clubs and at one time she definitely would have dropped Glee by now, but since she had grown to love it so much she just couldn’t do it. But, she also couldn’t drop the Cheerios because she still had an annoyingly high desire to be popular. That desire didn’t seem to be in danger at the moment since she hadn’t gotten slushied in at least two weeks, but she wasn’t going to jinx herself by celebrating that. She had learned the hard way that the moment she started thinking everything was back to normal was the moment it would go straight to hell again. So, she was going to be happy in silence and not let herself get too used to not getting a cold facial in the morning. Once Glee won Sectionals, she was sure that none of them would have to worry about anything like that, but until then there was always a chance for it to happen.
In complete honesty, Quinn understood where people got the impression that Glee club wasn’t cool since she herself had been one of those people a few months back. But, after they had all stepped up to support her during her unplanned pregnancy, she had more or less befriended everyone in the club and felt more accepted than she ever had in her life. Of course, that didn’t change the fact that she still wanted to be popular, but it was still an improvement. At least being part of Glee had softened her up and helped her rediscover the friendly, kind person she was before she’d gone through an extremely humiliating experience in middle school. Plus, it gave her a place to use her singing and dancing skills – skills that she hadn’t really brought into the open until she joined. Thinking back on her first day, she almost felt guilty that she had only joined it to spy for Coach Sylvester and help her bring them down from the inside. It had been scheme after scheme, but somehow they had all managed to keep it together and after everything they had done for her, Quinn couldn’t keep it up. It also didn’t help that she had discovered after a few weeks that she actually enjoyed being there. There were still some aspects of it – like Rachel Berry’s involvement – that really irked the seventeen year old, but there were other things going on often enough that those small things didn’t really faze her anymore. At least now she and Finn weren’t constantly fighting about the slightly younger girl anymore.
Quinn was at a place in her life where she was content, which was a welcomed change from all the chaos that had been present since she got pregnant. Now, everything seemed almost normal again. She was Captain of the Cheerios, she had an amazing boyfriend on the football team, and she was thin and pretty. She was also relieved to say that she had gotten her wish and hadn’t gotten any stretch marks back when she was pregnant. The only thing in her mind that could have made it even better was having a trophy from Sectionals and gaining some respect for the Glee Club, which was why she was currently in the auditorium. School had ended about twenty minutes ago and after dropping her things off at her locker, Quinn had enlisted the help of the club’s pianist and decided that she would practise a few songs before heading home for the night. She was amazed to find how comfortable she felt on the stage, and she smiled as she beckoned to the piano man and started to sing.

The halls of McKinley – the ones Skyler thought he'd never see, were becoming emptier with every passing minute. It wasn't surprising, since school had ended a short time ago. Though as he walked in the opposite direction of the leaving students, he wasn't surprised with the sparing confused glances he got. He was from Dalton after all, and their uniform had the habit of sticking out in a non-uniformed school. Skylar had left his jacket in his car, so the only thing he had that scream Dalton was his tie. Then again, not many people around him were wearing a dress shirt and such, so he still stuck out a bit. It didn't bother him in the slightest, seeing as he was used to it. At his old school he had the tendency to stick out a lot. At first it was because of his father and the bruises, which spread fast as gossip. Once that stopped, his fights with his ex-girlfriend made him stick out once more. He transferred in hopes of possibly escaping his past, but stuck out there as the new face. No one at Dalton treated him like the new kid, which he was happy about. Then Kurt came along to take away the new kid title, but he seemed to fit it quicker than Skylar had.
He had heard about Kurt's story from fellow Warblers, and it made Skylar slightly curious. Over the passing days, he could see that Kurt clearly missed his old school; McKinley. Though there had to have been a big reason for him to leave all of it. Skylar had heard about bullying, and decided to come along to investigate. However he soon realized that coming after school probably wouldn't get him very far. He didn't make a quick decision to leave, instead he stuck around to see why Kurt missed this place. It was quite possible that what Kurt missed was the glee club and its members. That on it's own made Skylar want to meet them. His curious nature was going to get him into trouble, but he figured that out long ago. As he was about to turn down another hallway, something reached his ears that made him stop altogether. A voice echoed throughout the halls, with a slight sad tone to it. He couldn't help but tilt his head as he tried to locate the source.
Skylar didn't doubt it was one of the glee club members practicing, and it only made his feet quicken their pace towards the voice. He didn't have the intention of spying and even if he learned anything about the rival club, he wouldn't repeat it to anyone from Dalton. Except maybe Kurt. Skylar hoped that maybe whoever was singing could help him figure out why Kurt had to leave, if he was already missing it so much. As he turned into the McKinley auditorium, he stopped completely for the second time that day. The voice alone had sounded beautiful to him, but coupled with the girl he saw on stage, he was beginning to wonder why they ever had trouble winning. He then reminded himself of two things; the judges were older and knew how to judge based on talent, and if he didn't move he would surely be caught. Skylar ducked down a bit as he walked further into the auditorium. When he could, he slid into one of the seats, and made himself comfortable. He was planning on asking her a few questions, but he wasn't about to go and ruin a good performance.

The auditorium was completely empty besides Quinn and the Glee Club’s pianist, which made rehearsing a whole lot easier. It also helped that Rachel wasn’t sitting there glaring at her while she sang, mad that it wasn’t her giving the performance. Rachel didn’t understand that just because she was obviously talented didn’t mean that she could always hog the spotlight and that it was a group effort where everyone needed to have time in the spotlight. That was the biggest thing about the girl that annoyed Quinn the most, and she often thought that if Rachel wasn’t such a stuck up, self-centered person then they might actually get along. That day, however, would never come because those things were never going to change. But, that didn’t really matter anyway since nobody said the cheerleader had to actually like everyone in the club to be a member of it. There were enough other members that the experience was still enjoyable for Quinn, and she was too busy focusing on helping them win Sectionals to let Rachel Berry’s presence bother her. After last year’s defeat, the Glee Club was considered even more nerdy than it had originally been and she really wanted them to gain some respect by winning this year. It would mean the world to Mr. Schue and everyone else to actually win, and Quinn was confident that if they continued on a good road, they would.
With Kurt’s transfer to Dalton they were down a member, but everyone seemed determined not to let that affect them and their hard work. Quinn had to admit that she wasn’t looking forward to having to compete against him at Sectionals because she actually liked him, but it was required now since they were part of opposing clubs. But, she understood why he had transferred. McKinley wasn’t exactly gay friendly and since he was the only one who had openly admitted that he was gay, he got bullied a lot – especially because he was also in Glee Club. The school environment hadn’t been exactly safe for him, and though measures had been taken to make him feel safe they hadn’t helped much. So, it was only natural that he had transferred schools and joined a Glee Club that didn’t get slushied and pushed around all the time. She had no idea how good the Warblers were, but she assumed that they were relatively good if they were going to Sectionals. They hadn’t performed last year so she was actually kind of excited to see them perform this year. It would certainly be interesting to see a group of all male singers performing, though Quinn was slightly afraid that having that unique thing about them would really help them in the competition. But, she did her best not to think about it and continued to think positive thoughts for her own club. She was working pretty hard to keep her voice in good shape for the competition, but it was a bit difficult since she still had Cheerios practise and obviously had to yell there too, but she was managing.
As she finished her song and looked over at the pianist for approval, Quinn caught sight of someone sitting in the audience from the corner of her eye. Confused since school ended, she raised a hand to her face in an attempt to shield her eyes and get a better view. For a moment she thought it was Sam sitting there listening to her sing, but upon further study she saw that though it was a guy who had about the same build, it wasn’t Sam – or anyone from McKinley. Frowning, Quinn placed her hands on her hips and stared out into the seats. Her next thought was that it was that idiot Jesse St. James, but she knew what he looked like and the guy sitting in the seat certainly wasn’t him. That left her to assume that the guy was a member of a rival Glee Club coming to spy on New Directions, which annoyed her. “Uh, can I help you with something?”
she asked, not in a mean or accusing way but in a curious one. Instead of thinking of how to explain his true reason of being there, so it wouldn't be assumed he was spying, Skylar merely sat in his seat until the blonde had finished her song. After all, with the honest, huge grin on his face, how did it look as if he had other intentions? Still, there was something about her that was drawing him here. Whatever it was, it was the reason he hadn't listened for a moment, and kept moving on. Perhaps is was his need to try and help everyone that he ran into, and maybe he had the feeling that she had a lot going on. Or … had a lot going on, he wasn't sure. It didn't really matter, because he was still sitting there, grinning up at the stage. He thought about clapping when she had looked towards the piano man, but decided against it. That would have just drawn attention to himself, while he still had a brief moment to escape. Scrambling to his feet, he quickly headed towards the aisle and turned to the door, but froze when he heard her voice directed at him. So he had been seen, and in his current position, well... it didn't look that great.
Straightening up, he slowly turned to face her while making sure his tie was neat – a habit he had picked up from a few of his fellow Warblers. His lips curled up into a friendly smile as he headed away from the door and down towards the stage instead. “Perhaps.” Left his lips slowly, as he took care to put emphasis on each syllable. “Would it be too much if I assumed you know Kurt Hummel?” Skylar questioned, closing in on the front of the stage. Standing in one spot, he glanced up past the lights that lined the stage to capture her in his gaze. He smiled again, he couldn't help it. While he always tried to help everyone, he did have a soft spot for beauty. True beauty, anyway. Though it could make him sound shallow, and maybe that's why his father... His gaze dropped for a moment, a frown set deeply on his lips. As much as he tried, his father always crept back into his head, even if it was in the littlest ways. Shaking his head, he looked up at her once again, his smile back on his lips.
“Can't believe I forgot one important thing.” He stated, which was followed by a quiet chuckle. “I'm Skylar Williams, from Dalton.” If she hadn't figured that out already anyways. Skylar wasn't about to call any attention to the possibility of him spying if she wasn't going to. He conveniently left out the fact that he was with the Warblers, but had the feeling it would be said sooner or later. Along those lines, he didn't even know if she was with Kurt's old Glee Club. New Directions, he believed Kurt had called them. It didn't matter, since he wasn't here to spy or anything of the sort. He had come here purely because of his curiosity, which didn't deal with the Glee Club at all. Though if they had more talent like this, he couldn't deny that he was interested. Though he put those thoughts aside and focused on the blonde, and her reaction to him being there.

There was something about the empty auditorium that made Quinn feel calm. Not only was it a great place to rehearse for Glee club, but it was also a good place to go if you wanted some time to yourself. Truthfully, Quinn had never spent much time – or any time, really – in there until she joined Glee because she’d really had no reason to. Now, it had kind of become her escape from the rest of the school when she needed to get out of the crowds. She was used to being surrounded by people and liked the attention, but every person needed a break from all of that sometimes, even the most popular people. Plus, she felt like she could sing her heart out on that stage and not have anyone judge her or question her cool factor. It was a really great thing to feel, and it was a feeling she never wanted to let go of.
When she turned to the pianist, she smiled as he clapped enthusiastically. It was nice to get praise since she had been trying very hard to sing the song well. It was also nice to be able to be in the spotlight for awhile without worrying about Rachel sitting there glaring up at her for taking it. Quinn was the kind of person who liked being the center of attention sometimes and when she really wanted it and was denied, it got to her like it would any other person. But, Rachel took it to a whole other level when she was denied her spotlight which was why she wasn’t as well liked as she could have been within the school. Rachel, however, didn’t actually care about being liked as long as she got to be the star of every single show. In Quinn’s opinion, she was glad when Mr. Schue sometimes denied the girl a solo because it stopped him from fueling her huge ego even more and made it fair to everyone else. That was why she was seriously hoping he would pick someone else to sing a solo when they finally got to sectionals; it didn’t have to be Quinn, but she wanted someone else that wasn’t Rachel to do it.
She watched as the guy who’d been sitting in the audience watching her moved down the aisle towards the stage. Now that he was in the light, she could see that he actually wasn’t bad looking and seemed friendly enough. That immediately pushed away her thought that maybe he was from one of the rival clubs and coming to spy on New Directions. At the mention of Kurt, Quinn smiled and nodded. “I do, actually. I was in glee club with him before he transferred out,”
she explained, wondering if the guy went to the new school that Kurt was now attending. She also noticed that he kept smiling at her and studying her, which she wasn’t sure was a flattering gesture or not. She had been told that she was beautiful by many people, so maybe this guy thought she was too? It wouldn’t be a surprise if that was the case, since she couldn’t count how many males did the same thing when they first saw her. It sounded conceited, but she wasn’t trying to be. It was just the truth, and something she had grown used too. She nodded as he introduced himself, and looked down at him from the stage. “Quinn Fabray, nice to meet you,” she said, registering that he did in fact go to the school Kurt was at now. “Oh, so you know Kurt from school then? How’s he doing there?” She could only assume he was having a much better time there without Karofsky pushing him into lockers. It was funny in a way, what Skylar had expected when he had first come here. He had half expected the school to be filled with punks; those that if you even looked at them the wrong way you'd be getting a black eye. Then again, that would have just made things easier. He knew pretty well that bullying could come from anyone, even people you don't expect. So when he first stepped into McKinley, and saw average high school students, he didn't feel too disappointed. If anything, he felt relieved; he didn't feel like walking out of there with a black eye or two. The students here were like those you could find anywhere – well, until you got to know them – and the bullying could come from any single one of the people that had passed him. Someone in this school, maybe more than one, were uncomfortable with those that were different. They had made that perfectly clear too, since that person had pretty much drove Kurt away from here. Despite that though, there was no real point in staying. School had ended some time ago, and the students were either on their way home or busy with after school things.
Then there had been her voice. That beautiful, sad sounding voice that had landed him in the auditorium. Now here he was, standing before the stage, and the source of the voice, having a conversation. A part of him felt accomplished when she mentioned that she was in the Glee Club with Kurt before he left. This trip to McKinley hadn't been a total waste. Though, even if he hadn't found someone that knew Kurt reasonably well, after running into her, he wouldn't have called it a waste at all. To Skylar, however, thoughts like that were pretty much pointless. He never acted upon them due to his … interesting history with relationships. Instead, he'll just be his kind self and carry on. Besides, for all he knew, she had a boyfriend who just might take a swing at him for even speaking to her. That probably wasn't true, it was just the way Skylar's mind thought. Immediately jumping to violence because, well, that's how he was raised. It didn't matter, that wasn't why he was here, and he'd keep telling himself that all the way back to Dalton.
Skylar nodded politely when Quinn stated it was nice to meet him. It was good to know that she was nice to those she hardly knew. She could have told him to leave immediately, because he was from Dalton, and Skylar would have genuinely apologized and done just that. When she asked how he was doing, he lightly rubbed the back of his neck. “Yeah I met him when he joined the Warblers, and I started to see him around the school as well. He's... settling in pretty well. As much as to be expected anyway.” He suddenly felt a tad bit awkward. It wasn't really his place to judge how well Kurt was doing; it was just his observation. “Kurt really seems to miss this place, though. Which is why I came along. If he misses it so much, what was so bad to drive him away?” Skylar questioned out loud, turning away from the stage. He took a seat in the front row, and motioned to the seat next to him. She didn't have to come down to sit, and he didn't really expect her to. The current standing situation just made things... odd. To him, at least.

The first thing that came to Quinn’s mind when she heard that Skylar was from Dalton was that he had come to try and spy on the competition. However, that really didn’t seem to be the case so she didn’t have to worry. She found herself wondering what he was doing there if it wasn’t to spy since most people who didn’t attend McKinley didn’t wander through the halls unless it was a parent or something. She was sure, however, that as the conversation progressed she would figure that out. McKinley was a fairly normal high school setting, though she was sure that it wasn’t exactly normal at Dalton because it was an all guys school and a private one at that. She could only imagine what it was like at private school: high tuition, uniforms, high expectations and a friendlier, close-knit student body. She wasn’t sure how far off she was in those thoughts but she would probably find out eventually – if not from Skylar, but from Kurt the next time she saw him. She was fully planning to ask her friend about his new school and how much better it was during that time, and she hoped it would be soon. She hadn’t realized it until he left, but she actually missed Kurt being in Glee Club. It was one of the best ways to torture Rachel, which was always a good thing for Quinn. But, of course, she didn’t like Kurt’s presence just for that.
School had ended a while ago, and Quinn felt weird being there after the final bells had rang. She was usually bolting out the door to go home, or she was scrambling to get to Cheerios practise. Today, however, was a free night for her and she was going to try and enjoy it since they were a rare thing these days. With Sectionals for both Glee Club and cheerleading so close and the mountains of homework to do and tests to study for, finding time to herself was difficult. That was why she had decided to come and practise a bit in the auditorium since nobody – especially not Rachel – would be around. She hadn’t expected to have an audience so when she’d caught sight of Skylar she had been surprised. Once she learned he was from Dalton, however, she understood more. He seemed to just be there out of interest, and to probably see what had driven Kurt out. She only hoped that other people weren’t around to try and accuse him of being a spy because that probably wouldn’t go over well. McKinley was a good school, but that didn’t mean its students were always the friendliest. New Directions, especially, were sensitive to rival clubs watching them because of their horrible loss last year and their fear that their set list would get leaked again like it had before.
The old Quinn probably would have told him off and sent him on his way, but the new Quinn was trying to be nice. People kept telling her that being with Sam had helped her become a nicer person, and while that was part of it, she suspected the other part was that she had learned that cruelty and putting people down got you nowhere. She had been a victim of bullying back in junior high, and once her popularity had spiked in high school she’d acted just like those girls who’d made her life miserable. Then, she got pregnant and it was like karma had come and slapped her in the face. Now, she was trying to be a nice person all the time and only let the bitchy part of her personality surface if it was truly necessary. “I’m glad to hear it. He needs a nice break from all the crap he went through here,”
she said with a small nod, walking down the steps to join him in the front row of seats. “Honestly, I think it was David Karofsky that drove him out. He’s on the football team with my boyfriend and he’s one of those typical high school bullies. He’s tortured everyone in our Glee Club at least once, but his favourite target was Kurt because he’s gay. It got to a point where Kurt didn’t feel safe anymore, so his dad and newstep-mom used their honeymoon money to send him somewhere that he would feel safe.” She hoped that was enough explanation for him.
