He was alone, and it was nice. After the super crazy week that Kurt had just had, it was really nice to have some alone time. Kurt was still trying to get used to everything at Dalton, he was well on his way to actually liking Dalton, if he ignored the dress code and the fact that he had only maybe three friends. It was still better then begin tormented everyday, without friends like he was at McKinley before Glee. Kurt shook his head, he was so sick and tired of thinking of his old school. It did nothing but hurt. Kurt sighed at fell backward onto the stage, he had taken refuge in the auditorium, it made him feel safe and happy. It reminded him of the happier times in his life, when he was singing. Kurt took a deep breath and made a decision. It was time to exercise some demons. Kurt stood and took center stage he knew just what song to sing.
"Something has changed within me Something is not the same I'm through with playing by the rules Of someone else's game"
Rachel has almost ruined Glee for him. She had taken everything he loved, his favorite song, Finn she was just such a pain. Kurt honestly hated her for several weeks, after the diva-off. He hated himself for giving into the torment but would do it again for his dad. Kurt knew that he couldn't allow himself to be held back like this anymore. He was safe here, to be himself, to discover himself. Kurt felt a little bit of his hurt float away.
"Too late for second-guessing Too late to go back to sleep It's time to trust my instincts Close my eyes: and leap!"
Kurt closed his eyes as he sang, he was imagining life now, no more neanderthals, no more less then compassionate friends. He could actually have a relationship here, possibly. He might be able to find someone to make him happy. Kurt grinned widely as he sung.
"It's time to try Defying gravity I think I'll try Defying gravity Kiss me goodbye I am defying gravity And you wont bring me down!"
He twirled around, his arms outstretched. This was the first time he had sung this song, or even listened to it since the diva-off. He hadn't have this much fun singing since the glee club did Gaga. It made him feel so free and relaxed. This was why he sung, not just because he had an incredible voice but because it was something that he loved more then anything. Kurt let his soul pour out during the song. He gave it his all knowing that he would not have to throw it because of close-minded people. That he wouldn't have to see the smug look on Rachel's face. He would nail the high F this time, even if no one was around to here it. It would be his own personal victory.
"I'd sooner buy Defying gravity Kiss me goodbye I'm defying gravity I think I'll try Defying gravity And you won't bring me down! bring me down! ohh ohhh ohhhh!"
Kurt was smiling, he felt so much better now, like a crushing weight had been lifted from his shoulders. He felt weightless, Kurt giggled at his thought. With another giggle, he fell to the stage floor again. He felt a lot better now.

Oh, Dalton Academy. It was quite the pretty school to be overrun by boys. Then again, the boys at this private school were different from normal boys attending public school—they were cleaner, more prim, and intelligent than the norm, which Akira found interesting. The school had a subtle yet grandiose feel about it, with its high, decorated ceiling, paintings, and craved statures adorning every wall and corner. It was, hands down, better than Carmel High School in regards to appearances and organization, but then, what could one expect from comparing a private all boy’s school to an intersex public school? Around her neck dangled an old, vintage Polaroid camera which she used to snap random shots and she came and went. A natural photographer, Akira took it upon herself to catch as many beautiful things she could on camera. Beauty was her life.
Akira let her fingers idly trial Dalton’s creamy caramel coloured walls, trailing across the bumpy swirls artistically carved into the wall as she turned the corner, making way to the auditorium. As she walked a few of the uniformed boys greeted her with open smiles. “Hey man,” one of them said, mistaking her for a boy. It didn’t bother her, it happened way too much to; in fact, she enjoyed the confusion surrounding her gender. It was fun and queer. Different than the rest. If people wanted to call her a guy then so be it, it didn’t offend her at all—it would have been silly to wear boys’ clothing and have a boyish haircut and erupt whenever mistaken for the opposite gender. It was all fun to her.
The tomboy was distracted by the school’s archaic beauty that she almost forgotten why graced the school with her presence in the first place. To check out the competition for Sectionals. Not in that sketchy, idea-stealing kind of checking out, Vocal Adrenaline merely enjoyed gauging the competition’s level of talent before competition; it gave them idea of what they needed to improve (which wasn’t a lot, to be honest) and change to be stronger competition. They did it for New Directions quite often, and in vice-versa; however, Vocal Adrenaline has never visited Dalton for the school was far too private. Finally the Warblers accepted Vocal Adrenaline’s plea to watch them perform a musical number of sorts—in one condition, if they could do the same. Vocal Adrenaline accepted, they had nothing to hide. Akira wanted to see if Dalton was any good this year. Kurt Hummel, former member of the underdog glee club New Directions now attended Dalton. The boy was an essential force in New Directions; he hadn’t the best voice, but it was prominent whenever New Directions sang during their numbers. The boy had strong vocals, probably the second or third best voice in his old glee club. Surely his new accompaniment with the Warblers made the acapella group a force to be reckoned with.
There it was. The auditorium. She paused for a moment and took a picture of the elegant looking door, enjoying the design in front of her before pulling the door open and stepping inside into the dimly lit area of over one hundred theatric folding recline seats. Jack pot. There was someone singing up ahead and from the sound of it—it was Kurt Hummel. She’d always admired the boy from afar because he was so confident and brave, traits she still hadn’t learned to fully muster. He’d been the reason she elected herself to visit Dalton; she always wanted to meet him, or at least see him in person on something other than a competitive stage. From afar, she respected him as a person and as a worthy rival. Now, what was he singing? Akira asked herself while snapping a faraway picture of him through the top stairs before beginning her descent to see him closer. It was just him, no accompanying music or additives. His voice was indeed quite lovely, a shame Vocal Adrenaline was going to beat them this year. The photographer later identified the song Kurt was singing to be Defying Gravity, a song from Wicked. He wasn’t too much into musicals; however, she was forced to sit through the two hour concert last year. It wasn’t as bad as she thought it was.
Akira slowly clapped as the boy fell backwards in theatrical glory. “Niiice, man. I hope you aren’t going to do this song for Sectionals, though. Bad idea. Boys singing girl songs are nothing but controversy, let me be the first to tell you.” Akira herself song plenty of songs traditionally sung by men and caught a lot of fire because of it. It mostly resulted in her not receiving solos in the group, or her opinion being excluded from club meetings.
