Quinn was not a morning person, so she was always grateful for the weekend when she could sleep in and not worry about having to get up and get to class on time. She hated the irritating sound of her alarm clock interrupting her dreams and didn’t miss the sound on days that it didn’t echo through her bedroom. It was Saturday, and she was glad for the break from anything involving personal effort on her part. She was a good student, but sometimes, she just needed a day to herself to relax and hang out with friends. Today was one of those days, as she canceled any plans she had for the day to go and hang out at the mall. It was one of the preferred hang out spot for most of the teenagers in Lima, and Quinn was no exception. There was something to do for everyone, and Quinn enjoyed walking along as guys walked by and almost banged into something while they tried to get a good look at her. She was the cause of many feelings of lust and desire for just about every teenage guy she saw, and usually basked in the attention whole-heartedly. It was a definite ego and confidence boost, but she was always smart when she decided who she’d give her attention too. She did, however, have a boyfriend now so she didn’t pay much attention to that anymore.
As Quinn opened her eyes, she could feel the warmth of the sun streaming in through her open window, and she smiled and stretched before throwing her covers aside and getting out of bed. Once she’d pulled herself into a standing position, she crossed to her window and was greeted by the view of her backyard. In the beginning, she wasn’t entirely thrilled about moving, but now that her mother had left her father they had really had no choice. After looking out the window for a few minutes longer, she headed into the bathroom to get ready for the day. She had showered before going to bed the previous night so she didn’t deem it necessary that morning. So, instead, she pulled a comb through her long, silky blonde hair and changed into a white floral cardigan and a short denim skirt. Once she was satisfied with her outfit, she headed back into the main part of her room, pulled her new purse out of her closet and stuffed her cell phone, her lip gloss and her wallet inside. After that, she grabbed her car keys and sunglasses, slipped into a pair of grey boots and headed out the door. Once she made it to her silver convertible, she started the engine, pulled out of the driveway and drove towards the mall, letting her hair blow around in the breeze. As she drove, she heard her phone buzzing in her bag but ignored it for the time being. After making a quick stop at Starbucks to get a strawberries and crème frappuccino, she got back into the car and continued on her way. The mall was just as crowded as usual since it was Saturday and she sighed before parking the car. Shutting off the engine and taking her keys out of the ignition, the blonde beauty stepped out of the car, hoisted her bag onto her shoulder and headed towards the mall entrance.
Once inside, Quinn looked both ways down the hallway to decide where she wanted to start. She needed a few things and wanted to spend as much time away from her house as possible, so she was trying to debate which route would let her do both those things. After a few minutes, she decided to turn left and start there. As she walked, the heels on her boots echoed on the tile floor and she could hear a few guys cat calling to her, but she waved them off and just kept going. She wished that she hadn’t come alone, then an idea struck her. Pulling out her phone, she sent a quick text then put her phone back into her bag and waited for an answer. While she did, she continued on her way, stepping into a store who’s display held a dress that had caught her eye.

It was safe to say that Santana was not a big fan of weekends. Which, as she was a high school student, should seem rather odd. Most of her friends looked forward to the weekend. Saturdays meant sleeping in, hanging out with friends, no classes, and absolutely no annoying people to deal with. However, it also meant down time. And lately for Santana, down time was the worst thing possible. Her mind had always been calculating. She was always thinking about different situations and possible outcomes. Despite the stereotypes on cheerleaders, Santana’s brain was definitely functioning. And it was because of her brain that she was on top at McKinley. She knew what decisions would move her forward and what ones would hold her back. And lately, all she had been able to think about was how staring at her blonde cheerleader best friend would hold her back if others knew the thoughts that accompanied her looks. She liked the routine of school. Get up, get ready, drive to school, sit in class, take notes, sing in glee, make fun of Berry, slushie someone, flirt with the boys, go home, study, have dinner, watch tv, and go to sleep to do it all again the next day. See? Every weekday was filled with things to do. Things that kept her mind occupied all day. What was she supposed to do on a Saturday?
She decided that moping about her thoughts in bed all weekend was totally useless. And weird. Like, psych unit weird. So she decided to get up and take a shower, hoping the hot water would bring her some relief. After a scorching shower, that did nothing to ease her mind, and working some magic with her hair, she walked back into her bedroom. She noticed the light on her phone blinking to let her know she had a missed alert. Reaching over to the table beside her bed, she checked the text message, and grinned to see it was from Quinn. Sure, she and the blonde had been off and on with their friendship the entire time they had known each other, but when they were on, they were basically unstoppable. With a grin, she sent a quick text in return to let her other blonde friend know that she would meet her at the mall as soon as possible. Thankfully, Quinn and all her innocence had never once questioned her closeness with the third member of their trio. She hoped that Q never had a reason to question her. She wanted that part of her life kept under wraps. In this hick town, girls didn’t like girls, and boys didn’t like boys…unless you were Kurt. Santana would not let herself be an exception to the rule though. She was the top bitch in McKinley, and she damn sure wanted to stay there. She had spent far too long working her way to the top to let a little thing like feelings get in her way. She would just have to find herself the right guy. Right? That’s all the problem was. Not that she was destined to like girls for life, she just had yet to find a guy that was as good to her and that she liked as well as her best friend. Totally normal.
With a shake of her head, Santana grabbed a pair of cut-off shorts, glad that the weather in Ohio had finally realized it was spring. She then searched her closet for a t-shirt to accompany them, and a pair of low-top white chucks. She planned on strutting the mall and getting the attention she knew her legs would bring. Plus, if she knew Quinn, they would be trying all kinds of stuff on and she wanted to be comfortable. Grabbing her purse, wallet, and keys, Santana was out the door and on her way for some coffee before making her way to the mall. As she arrived, she sent a quick text to Quinn to let her know she’d arrived and to find out where to meet up. With that, she got out of her car and made her way into the mall.

As Quinn stepped out of the store with the dress she had seen packed nicely into a bag, she looked around and saw that the mall had gotten more crowded – if that were even possible. Saturdays in Ohio were big shopping days for people and though she had known that, the seventeen year old had gone there anyway just to avoid being at home for the day. Her mother was working for most of it because she had to finish a few last minute things, and she didn’t want to sit at home until it was time to go and meet up with Sam. Plus, shopping was a good way to distract herself from all the stress and chaos currently consuming her life. She had two sectionals competitions in less than a month and it was nice to just kick back and relax for a day without worrying about them. It was also a chance for her to catch up with Santana, since she hadn’t seen much of her friend outside Cheerios practise and Glee rehearsal.
As she started to walk again, her phone went off and she dug through her purse to get it out. It was a reply from Santana saying that she would be there soon, and Quinn smiled at the reply. Her friendship with Santana was a bit of a weird one. They were on and off mostly because they both liked to be on top, but since Quinn had stopped caring so much about that it made it easier for the two girls to get along. Santana and Brittany were her oldest and closest friends despite their differences, and it was going to be nice to catch up with at least one of them that day. Plus, it was always a lot more fun shopping with Santana because they helped each other out with outfit choices and basked in the attention they got when they walked through the fairly large mall. Brittany was fun to shop with too, but it had been longer since she’d seen Santana. Quinn figured they would probably call the third member of their trio later on in the day, but right now it was going to just be the two of them. The plan was to spend their parents’ money and enjoy some time away from stress and school work. It was a solid plan in Quinn’s mind.
As she continued walking towards the food court and sat down, her phone buzzed again and she looked down to see that Santana had arrived and wanted to know where to meet up. Quickly replying to meet her in the food court, Quinn smiled and put the phone on the table in front of her. She decided to wait until her friend joined her before she went to get food so Santana would find her easier, and looked around the semi-packed tables. As she waited, she looked around at the different food choices and tried to decide what to get that wouldn’t be too fattening. Unfortunately, it was the mall so fattening food was kind of unavoidable but at least she could attempt to keep the calorie intake at a lower level. After a few minutes, she decided that she would get a chicken ceasar salad since it seemed like the healthiest choice. Now, all she had to do was wait for Santana.

Santana did a bit of window shopping as she waited on Quinn to text her back. She stopped in front of a shoe store and looked in the window. She saw a pair of killer white heels. She made a mental note of them. If she was able to find something to go with them, she would have to come back and get them. There was something even better in the window, though. Way better than any pair of heels. In the reflection of the glass, Santana could see people walk by and do a double take in her direction. It had to be her direction at least, because she could not imagine those boys looking at shoes in that way. She grinned cockily, tossed her hair over her shoulder, and continued on her way. It was perfect timing, too, because at that moment she heard her phone go off in her bag. She pulled it out and read the message from Quinn. Rolling her eyes, she started off toward the food court. Leave it to baby mama to want to eat at the mall. Santana had no idea what the hell she was going to get that wouldn’t make her feel the need to jog home instead of using her car.
As Santana walked across the mall to meet Quinn, she couldn’t help but think about how the past year had treated them. She could still remember the feelings she had when she found out Quinn had gotten knocked up. It was a mixture of disappointment, happiness, and disbelief. The disbelief should be self-explanatory. After all, Quinn had been president of the celibacy club. The happiness came from the fact that it knocked Quinn off the top of the totem pole, and put Santana firmly in her place. The disappointment, however, was a little harder to grasp. Santana had known Quinn for a while now. With Brittany, they were an unstoppable trio. Too cool for whole names, only the first letter of their names was necessary. But everyone knew it was Santana and Quinn who had been the top bitches. As much as it made Santana sick to admit it, Brittany probably would not have been as popular if it were not for her and Q. Sure, everyone could see that Brittany was hot and could dance like it was nobody’s business. But very few people could see past the blank expression in class or the out of the blue answers she gave. Quinn had helped Santana hold Brittany up. She had helped Santana stay on top. Quinn probably had a lot to do with why Santana was popular. She thought of her like a sister. Like family. And family protects one another. So watching Quinn fall from grace had been as disappointing as watching it happen to a family member. Of course, if anyone were to ask her about it, she’d deny it to her last breath. And as such, she liked to poke fun at Quinn, just to keep her guessing.
When Santana entered the food court area, she quickly scanned the tables looking for blonde hair. Instead of heading directly over when she found Quinn, she opted to grab a salad first. There was no way she would be putting anything fattening in this body. She did not want to get ripped a new one by Coach Sylvester for her eating habits. Once she got her salad, she made her way over to Quinn’s table. As she took a seat, she noticed the dress bag sitting beside her friend. She raised an eyebrow at Quinn, “You started without me I see. What’d you get?” With that, she poured her dressing on her salad and took a bite.

The food court was emptying out, but it filled up just as quickly. The mall was a popular place to go for people on a Saturday, but thankfully it wasn’t so busy that there were lines to get in to the stores like it did around Christmas time. If that had been the case, Quinn would have completely avoided the place like the plague and not gone until all the craziness had died down. Today, however, was just a normal Saturday so there was no crazy hordes of people to avoid. She had really only gone to the food court because it seemed like the most convenient place to meet up with Santana. She hardly ever ate at the mall because of all the fat and calories in the food offered at the various carts, but at least she did have the option to get a salad as soon as her friend joined her and someone was there to save the table. Given by the amount of people wandering around with trays, it was guaranteed that as soon as she got up and left the table someone else would snag it and leave Santana and herself without one. The plan was that one of them would stay at the table while the other got food to keep it from being taken from them.
As she continued to wait for Santana, Quinn opened her phone to send a quick text to Sam to let him know that she was going to be out for the day and she would see him later on, then put it back on the table in front of her in case Santana messaged her. It was going to be nice to have a girl’s day out since she hadn’t had much time to just hang with the girls. It would have been better if Brittany was coming to since the three of them were an unstoppable force, but for now it was good that she would be spending time with Santana. A manicure and pedicure were definitely on the list of possible activities to do once they got bored of the mall since Quinn was in desperate need of one, and she didn’t think that her friend would protest. It was like heaven sitting in those chairs being pampered and the seventeen year old hadn’t been pampered in a while. She made a mental note to mention that suggestion when Santana joined her, and continued to scan the food court, looking for her fellow Cheerio.
Santana, however, found her first and Quinn smiled as her friend slid into the seat across from her with a salad in hand. The two of them had had their ups and downs the last few years, but things were more or less fine for them now. She knew that Santana sometimes wished that she was ahead of Quinn on the social ladder, but as friends they were both pretty equally popular. Quinn didn’t care about it as much as she used to – though she did still care a bit – but she knew that wasn’t the case for Santana. Thankfully, being Cheerios kind of trumped the whole Glee Club thing, so they didn’t have to worry so much. The slushie facials had more or less ceased for the time being, so that was good too. Plus, Quinn had stepped back to the top now that her pregnancy thing was over. “I got a dress. It was adorable and I couldn’t walk by without getting it,” she said, pulling it out of the bag to show her friend. “I see you were thinking the same thing I was food wise. How’s the salad?” She usually liked to hear that it was actually fresh and good before going to spend her money on mall salad, and Santana was a good judge of that. Santana couldn’t help but be a little jealous of Quinn’s looks. Don’t get her wrong; Santana knew she was hot stuff. In some ways, she may be even hotter than Quinn. Her ethnicity gave her a unique skin tone in Lima, Ohio. And she knew it gave her a great ass, too. When it came to shopping for clothes in this small ass town though, it really helped to look average. And Quinn definitely had the “All-American” girl look down. They could walk into any store today, and Quinn would be able to find something that looked good. So it didn’t really surprise her that Quinn had managed to find something incredibly hot already. It also meant it was pure fact when she pointed her fork toward the bag and said, “Yeah, that’s going to look awesome on you. Nice find, Q.” While both girls could be considered fashionable in their little town, Santana had to hand it to Quinn. She could spot hot outfits a mile away. She hoped Quinn was going to put that to good use today, because Santana didn’t have any plans for the shopping excursion. She didn’t really need anything, but if they spotted a must have, of course she’d get it.
She looked over her friend for a minute, trying to get a read on her attitude. The two girls were definitely in the “on” stage of their on-off friendship, but they usually only hung out together anymore if Brittany was there to keep the peace. Now that the preggers-fiasco was in the past, Quinn had naturally stepped back up to be Head Cheerio. While Santana still believed she was Top Bitch, the student body all saw Quinn on top. It was hard for Santana to be second best at anything, so she couldn’t help but feel a bit of envy toward the blonde next to her. ”So what’s the plan for today? Relaxation? Looking for specific things? Struttin’ our stuff for people to see? Well, not you though, wouldn’t want word to get back to Guppy Lips. I’d hate for him to get jealous.” She smiled to let Quinn know she was kidding about Sam. Well, only a little. New guy had some serious lips. She wasn’t sure how she felt about them. He was kind of nerdy and had no game, but people liked him. Plus he was on the football team and a helluva lot hotter than Finn. Santana guessed if she had to go for a guy, Sam wouldn’t be a bad choice. Plus, with the nice guy attitude, she was sure sex would not be expected. She shook that thought out of her head though. That was a sure way to put her and Q into the “off” stage of their friendship, and she’d hate to have to slam the girl against some lockers again.
Santana took a glance around the food court. Since there wasn’t much to do in this hick-ass town, the mall was a natural place for people, especially teenagers, to flock on a Saturday. And since it was lunch time, there were people in and out of the food court. They were probably a bit lucky Quinn had managed to snag a table. She took a glance at her salad before looking back up to Quinn. “It’s edible. And it’s not like there’s anything else here to eat.” She shrugged her shoulders as she stabbed some more lettuce with her fork. “I’d say it’s worth it. Go get one and I’ll hold down the fort.”
