» OVERALL PERSONALITY: At first glance, Santana is the head bitch at McKinley High. Sure, it's Quinn who is head cheerleader. But the brawn? That's all Santana. She's the enforcer. Even the jocks know better than to mess with her or her friends. But don't think Santana is all muscle. The girl has brains as well. She is always watching those around her, taking their actions and words into consideration to be used for her plotting in the future.
On the other hand, there is a whole other side to Santana Lopez. Very few people get to see this other side of her and live to tell about it. Santana uses her bitch personality to defend her friends, which means she actually cares about others. The easiest way to tell this is true? Watch her interact with Brittany. Santana may very well be the only person in school, teachers included, to have never called Brittany stupid. In fact, every time Brittany says something that makes other people wonder if Britt had suffered traumatic brain injury, all Santana can do is stare at the girl with a longing smile. She knows that Britt just thinks about things differently. Santana knows Brittany is smart in other ways, and not to mention gorgeous. The two girls just get each other. What Santana would really like to do, is to call Brittany hers. She thinks the blonde would go for it, but Santana is reluctant. They can't be together like she wants, not here in Lima. Not where that beautiful blonde would be ridiculed, and slushied, and possibly hurt. She couldn't bear the thought of that happening and not being able to stop it. So for now, she'll wait, and plot out a way to make that a reality in the future. See? She's not always selfish, sometimes her thoughts are to defend others.
*i was born this way,
» PARENTS: Roberto and Maria Lopez
» SIBLINGS: spoiled, only child
» PETS: none, Brittany's cats are enough for her
» SIGNIFICANT OTHER: currently using Karofsky as her beard
» OTHER IMPORTANT PEOPLE: Santana is Hispanic, her entire extended family is important, abuelos, tios, primos...
» HISTORY: Santana's mother is a devout Catholic, as is her father, who also happens to be a doctor. They had first met when Roberto was in medical school. However, due to his crazy schedule, they did not become serious until he had graduated. Their marriage did not happen until their late twenties, but by then Roberto was a full blown doctor. So when their honeymoon came around and they went at it like rabbits, they knew exactly what to expect within the coming year. Needless to say, Santana was an absolutely planned child.
Unfortunately, the pregnancy was not easy on Maria. Due to complications, the couple found out that Santana would be their only biological child. Though the news could have taken a toll on the couple, their belief in God and their beautiful baby girl got them through the ordeal. They saw this as an opportunity to give the girl everything she could ever want. They gave her gifts, they gave her love, and they taught her about power. Growing up in a Latina family, meant you were never alone. There were grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. With such a large family, a kid had to find a way to be noticed. She and her cousins were always fighting for dominance. It had started out as them just trying to outdo each other with their pictures, or sand castles, dancing. When Santana got bored of being better than her female cousins, she knew she had to take over the boys as well. The games turned physical: who could run the fastest, who could come up with the best insults, who would win in wrestling? All these childhood games molded Santana into the HBIC she would become in school.
Throughout elementary school, Santana seemed like a normal little girl. She wore dresses picked out by her mother, ate lunch with the other girls, and tried hard when her teachers asked it of her. It wasn't until middle school that a change was noticeable. The transition to middle school meant combining a few elementary schools together. For Santana, this meant having to start all over. She either needed to make new friends, or dominate the new kids. She decided upon the latter. She knew how cliques worked, she had talked to her older cousins. So the first thing she did was join the cheerleading squad. With the uniform came power in the school hierarchy. Now the girls wanted to be her, and the boys just wanted her.
By the time she made it to high school, Santana had the act down. She needed to strut the hallways in her uniform to keep the boys gawking. This would make the other girls jealous. They wanted to be just like her. The upperclassmen did not know of Santana's reputation however. So her first day of freshman year, Santana knew she'd have to show people she meant business. Santana had despised Rachel Berry throughout middle school. The girl was always singing and saying she was better than others. She didn't seem to care that everyone paid more attention to Santana than her. Santana decided it was time to put the annoying girl in her place. First day, Santana grabs a red slushy and tosses it in Berry's face. She's pretty sure it was the first slushy of the school year. A smirk of satisfaction crossed her face as she strutted away, head held high. There were people applauding her and giving her respectful glances already. Santana knew she had high school in the bag.
Of course, making your way to the top of the social chain meant that Coach Sylvester would want you to do her dirty work. Along with Quinn and Brittany you joined Glee club, planning to ruin the club from within. It should have been a piece of cake for the trio. Except, Santana was good. At the singing and dancing that is. Really good. And then they won a competition. And Santana found herself singing on her walk home, and in her bedroom, and in the shower. And she couldn't stop singing the songs from rehearsal or practicing the dance steps, and she knew she was caught. Santana enjoyed performing, having all eyes on her, being in the stupid club with those loser nerds. There was no way she was going to let the club be destroyed, because then she'd lose this thing that had become so important to her. So instead, she used her reputation to defend Glee club and its members.
One year later, and Glee club is still going strong. Sue still wants to take it down, but clearly The Unholy Trinity is not going to help her. Due to her reputation, Santana doesn't have to worry about being made fun of for her grades or for Glee. What she can't seem to stop however, is the homophobia that runs rampant in this town. So when she starts imagining kissing Brittany in public and telling her she has non-friend feelings for her, she freaks out. If that became public knowledge, her reputation couldn't save her. Santana is currently caught in a cycle of wanting to keep Brittany close to her and pushing her away to keep herself from sprouting out how she feels. She hopes that one day, this round-and-round game will end, hopefully in a way that will make both of them happy.

» RP SAMPLE:With all that had been going on with Brittany and "feelings" lately, Santana opted to try to stay as far from the blonde as possible. When she entered Mr. Schue's Spanish class, that meant giving a fellow student the Lopez glare so she'd vacate her seat. With a contented sigh, Santana sat down and began to take out a notebook only to realize that instead of sitting beside Brittany, she was now behind her. As she was looking forward, the blonde looked to the person beside her, who was definitely not Santana, then whipped her head around to look at Santana. The look was pure hurt. Clearly Brittany was not happy about the distance Santana kept putting between them. She was sure this was an even worse position, as now Brittany would be in her vision the entire class as she tried to pay attention to what Mr. Schue was saying. Thankfully, this was Spanish, Santana’s second language. Verbally, she was fluent in it. She only got away with taking the class because her family never wrote it. Santana decided that zoning out would be the best idea.
As Santana doodled in her notebook to make it look as though she were taking notes, she let her mind wander. She started to think about their Glee lesson yesterday. Mr. Schue had actually started out by asking for volunteer soloists. As if they didn’t all want solos. Well, maybe not Mike or Lauren, but practically everyone else was starving for a solo. He then took a song and broke up the verses so that everyone had a few lines to themselves. The first run through was hilariously bad. Mostly because everyone wanted to showcase their talents in just a couple of lines. This led to Rachel belting out a minor line and Mercedes doing riffs way too early in the song. After talking about it as a group, and some encouragement from Mr. Schue, the club figured out the point of the assignment. They needed to make the song, and the group, sound good as a whole. Just because someone nailed a line or two, didn’t mean the entire song would be great. The second run through had everyone toning down their singing in the appropriate places, so that as the song came to an end, and everyone belted out the chorus together, it sounded amazing.
Sure, Santana had been one of the ones belting it out on the first go-round. She wanted everyone to know she was every bit as talented as the two females who always had the solos. But when Mr. Schue talked to them about not being selfish, and not trying to outshine everyone else, Santana couldn’t help but glance at Brittany. She wondered if that was the vibe she was giving out to the blonde girl. She kept putting a distance between them, running around with more boys than she wanted to count. She was also becoming a diva in Glee club instead of mostly a dancer with Britt. She knew what Brittany wanted, and she knew what her own heart wanted. Why couldn’t she just give herself to Brittany? Because she was afraid of being hurt? Of being called names? What kind of head bitch was she if she let these Lima losers dictate her happiness? Dictate her best friend’s happiness? A best friend that she knew could be best significant other ever since they just got each other so well.
Santana was snapped out of her thoughts by the bell ringing. She had no idea what Mr. Schue had talked about the entire class, but as she saw Brittany jump out of her seat, she realized she didn’t care. She went to shove her notebook in her backpack. As she did, she noticed her doodles had turned into hearts with BP+SL in them. She shook her head, threw her notebook in her bag, and took off out of the classroom. She was yelling for Brittany as she hit the hallway, running through different ways of explaining her actions to the blonde girl she loved so much.
