TELL ME THAT YOU'VE GOT EVERYTHING YOU WANT
&& Y O U R B I R D C A N S I N G
BUT YOU DON'T GET ME, YOU DON'T GET ME
Cheerleading practice had stolen her energy, it had been brutal as Mia found herself trying to catch her breath in the locker rooms. Sue had taken pleasure in pushing them through ridiculous exercise that made her question her reasons for being on the cheerleading squad. Their coach had been in a bad mood that much was clear, and Mia wasn’t sure why but she had a feeling that it had something to do with Glee club. Why else would she punish those in the club? She felt as though some of the girls including herself had been singled out. She struggled to get her casual clothes back on, and brush her long dark hair until felt smooth again. On the inside she felt as though she were going to have a heart attack at any moment but Mia knew it was all in her head. She had been through this before, but it never ceased to exhaust her. Now she was more worried about being late to Glee club. She had lost all sense of time in her effort to keep herself moving. But her legs were shaking and she wondered what was going on with her body. Mia knew the answer was in the back of her mind, but she couldn’t put her finger on it yet. So instead she grabbed her bag and slowly made her way to the auditorium.
They were supposed to meet here today so they could practice a new song, and learn a few dance moves. But the thought of doing any moving had her feeling sick. She pushed herself to move faster until finally she had reached the room, for a moment she clung onto the door and braced herself for what would be inside. She had to be late, she just had to. But as she pushed the door open Mia found the room to be empty. Had she been mistaken after all? Maybe everyone in Glee wasn’t meeting here today at all. It was possible she had been confused. It didn’t matter though; if that was the case she would just have to skip out on it today. She didn’t have the energy to walk all the way down the hall to the classroom. She walked down the long stretch of red carpet that led to the main stage, this empty space made her feel like she was the only person in the entire school. It was so peaceful and unnerving at the same time.
Her hand fell upon the railing as she tried to keep her balance; she was still at a loss for what her problem was. Mia was in shape, she was a cheerio after all. It came alone with the job description, besides Sue made sure that her cheerios were fit especially when they had several competitions on the line. Perhaps it was just allergies, yeah that had to be it. She knew her mom got them, unless it was just another excuse she used. Then a single word popped into her mind. Water. That was it. The sun had been blaring down on her all through practice. She had been drilled so hard that Mia didn’t even have the opportunity to get a water break. She was dehydrated and she had been too stupid to figure it out. Her concentration was lost when she heard another door open. Startled she stopped walking, her legs feeling as though they wanted to buckle. “Hello? Is anyone there?” She looked around but couldn’t find the source of the noise. “Or am I just talking to myself…”
